Special Olympics Winter Games Canada 2020

The City of Thunder Bay hosted the The Special Olympics Winter Games from February 25th to 29th. We are proud to say our Gillons-sponsored skater, Janie McGraw of New Brunswick, took 3rd place overall in her division. Congrats Janie and thank you to the wonderful volunteers who helped make a great games!

Moosecalac Fund Raiser Another Success

Since 2005, Moosecalac hockey tournament has raised over $275,000 and all of that money has been returned to the community. The event is all for charity and all funds raised go support Sick Children and local Kid’s activities in Greenstone. This year, Gillons supported a 4 year old boy from Beardmore with an auto immune disease and has been receiving therapy since October 2019. Our LA Kings jersey was auctioned off this year and proceeds went to our sponsored boy and his family!

Gillons Sharks Score Big

Great job Gillons Sharks on winning the Emo Atom tournament. Thank you to all of the organizers who always do an amazing job!

Fort Frances Customer Appreciation Day

Customer Appreciation Treat Day at the Rainy Lake Square. Our customers in Fort Frances got sweet treats for their customer appreciation day. Lemonade and ice cream were handed out at the Rainy Lake Square Market just in time for back to school. Thanks to all of our customers who stopped by! It has been a pleasure doing business with you since 1924.

Dryden Customer Appreciation Day

Cutting the cake in our new office at the customer appreciation BBQ. Our team in Dryden had a great day giving out hot dogs and smokies for our customer appreciation BBQ. All donations received went to the breakfast programs at Open Roads, St. Joseph’s, Lillian Berg and New Prospect Schools in Dryden. There was plenty of cake to go around as well! Thank you to all of our customers for your continued business.

Red Lake Customer Appreciation Day

Another successful annual customer appreciation BBQ. Our Red Lake team was ready with smokies, hot dogs and refreshments, along with our neighbours from Forever Green Gift Boutique. All donations went to the Red Lake Pow Wow Committee. After the BBQ, we had some friendly competition at the lovely Red Lake Golf & Country Club. Thank you to our amazing customers for coming out!

Atikokan Bass Classic Kid’s Fishing Tournament

Little anglers having fun at the Atikokan Bass Classic Kid’s tournament. We were so excited to have a record breaking number of little anglers at the Atikokan Bass Classic Kid’s Tournament at Minnow Pond. Each participant was given a Gillons whistle to make sure we knew when they had a big catch. Our very own Angela Goodwin and Carolyn Anderson both fished in the tournament this year and had a great time in the parade. Thank you to all the volunteers who make this such a fantastic event!

Hometown Heroes

Road hockey action with the George Jeffrey Foundation. Our Thunder Bay team got out of the office for a little road hockey press conference with the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation in support of their Hometown Heroes golf tournament. It was all friendly competition and the real winners are all the children this great charity helps ever day. We also had a blast at the golf tournament along with our friends from Northbridge Insurance.

Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship

Early mornings doing boat checks at the FFCBC. Our team was up at the crack of dawn making sure all the anglers were checked and ready to go. The volunteers who put on the tournament always make sure there is plenty of coffee and donuts to go around. Our very own David Byrnes and Luc Romaniuk competed this year, and our volunteers can assure you their boats were checked very thoroughly! Thanks as always to the event organizers for always doing such a great job.

Lake of the Woods Women’s Walleye Tournament

Some of our Kenora team helping with organizing, boat checks, and getting Huskie ready for the Lake of the Woods Women’s Walleye tournament. The rain didn’t slow down our boat checkers at the Lake of the Woods Women’s Walleye Tournament! The anglers started off at Devil’s Gap Marina and finished with dinner and celebrations at the Golden Eagle Bingo Hall. Proceeds went to the Sunset Area Victim Crisis Assistance and Referrals Services. Congrats to our very own Jackie McAlister and Tracy McDonald placed 14th of 41 teams! Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers for making this day another great success.

Spring Up to Clean Up

Our team took to the streets to clean up around our office on Red River Road and the surrounding area. Spring was in the air while our team worked hard at cleaning up the surrounding area of 214 Red River Road. Thanks to Eco Superior for getting us out of the office and giving us supplies to get our neighborhood ready for the summer. We look forward to helping with this initiative every year.
